Apologies for lack of updates so far this week but it has been rather quiet. Tish is on her last night tonight which is great but we have a rather busy day tomorrow.
Tish does not like nights but the one bonus of nights here is that we are only a short drive from the Hospital and so she does not have to add an hour each way for traveling!
First the car - we are trying to sort out finance so that we can build up a credit history over here which will make it easier as and when we look at home loans etc. The issue has been the finance company - they are very willing to offer us finance but not for such a small amount se we are going back in tomorrow to have a look at what else is on offer!
Then immediately after that I have an appointment with the dreaded dentist - a filling fell out over the weekend so I have to get it replaced. Oh joy!
I have managed to sneak in a bit of birding - well someone has to!
This week have visited Buffalo Creek (still surprising numbers of waders - 138 greater sandplovers and 450+ great knot, both ofwhich are more normal summer visitors here as they should be breeding in Siberia at the moment), Charles Darwin NP (hard going to say the least but once got my head round the bird calls I think will be quite productive) and Knuckey Lagoon. Bird highlights have been Cicadabird, Northern Rosella (the last parrot species found in the Darwin area that I had not see - need to go south to get hooded parrot, budgie and cockateal) and White-necked Heron.
Unfortunately I did not manage to get any photos of any of these - the heron in particular was dissappointing as it is a huge bird but I could not get the ccamera set up before it flew off.
Did manage to get a couple of shots of Wandering Whistling Duck at Knuckey:
Sometimes it is eay to forget to look at the common birds as well. Here are a couple of close ups of Magpie Lark a very common species throughout Darwin.
Tomorrow probably wont have an update but Fridays should be good - it is crazy hair day at Wulagi so we shall just have to wait and see what the children look like!
I think I'd rather see the magpie lark than the whistling duck - apart from the name it's much more interesting. Does crazy hair day mean mop chop? Got some pix on Aberdout Beach today - 25+ deg, blue skies, house martin nests and noisy woof, will sort a blog tonight possibly. Just a short one.
