Garden things

Obviously a key criteria for any house we move into has to be wildlife potential and so far the new place is looking promising....
Striped Possum feeding in the trees in ours and next doors garden

In addition to the possum we have one my favourite frogs, the White-lipped Tree Frog. They always have a rather smug expression I think...

Although it is mid winter here and the weather has been bad (wind, rain and for the tropics cold night time temperatures) the moth trap has been on a few times and has some nice catches, ranging from the little....
A Stegommata species that was no more than 3-4mm long

to the large
male Donuca castalia

The bird life isn't bad either

Male Double-eyed Fig Parrot

School holidays

Its the start of the short winter break over here so despite having a rather large pool it is WAY tooooo cold for swimming - and I should know cos I made the eldest two jump in last weekend

On entering the water Hamish promptly took off in a manner that a Harrier Jump jet would have been proud of - talk about vertical take off - and was in the house in a hot shower before I could stop laughing...... I have suggested that they get in and have a splash around but this has been declined and may I say with rather rude language to boot!
Tish is working through the holidays so aside from having the odd school friend round and a few friends over for a BBQ we will be having a quiet time

We're back, more ramblings from The Funnells

As is often the way life got in the way of things and the blog was forgotten about as we got on with life but I am now restarting it so a brief update is required so here is a summary of life with the Funnells since my last post....Aunty Jo left, summer started, the long summer / Christmas holidays started, I caught a few moths and saw a few birds, Tish got a new Community Midwife post and left Ramsay, we got letter to say house in Caravonica was being sold, Xanthe started at Smithfield High, we got Odin and we moved back to Yorkeys Knob.....
A few pictures of the new house

It is what they call a traditional Queenslander built on stilts - the ground floor is a self contained granny annex which we have turned into Xanthes bedroom and the childrens rumpus room allowing the main body of the house to remain relatively clutter free which is great.
The other main event and deserving of a few pictures was the arrival of the newest member of the Funnell Clan - Odin a miniature Dachshund puppy....

That will do for today as Odin is currently chewing my toes in order to get my attention!
