A long anticipated event....

It has been a busy day today.
But first my recent trip to the dreaded dentist - lets just say I left the dentist less of a man than when I went in! The filling was not replaceable so the options were root canal work and then a filling (moocoh dollaro) or a tooth extraction (slightly less moocho dollaro and one that could be done immediately). I took the latter option and have to say that despite having a general dislike of dentists this one was very good. This is a relief as we have booked Xanthe in to see him in a couple of weeks to look at her over bite (like father like daughter!).
The main highlight today was meant to have been the Wulagi Primary School Bad Hair Day, it was certainly the most colourful part of the day. The day is held as a fund raiser for the school and for a nominal fee the children can come in with any type of hair they like (as an aside one of the teachers thought this was discrimination and at the assembly that Cameron and I went to on Wednesday was crumbling about it - I should add he is bald!!). The chance to brighten things up is never going to be missed by Xanthe in particular so some assistance was called for in the form of spray cans.
The end results once Tish's artistic streak had taken over was impressive to say the least:

Cameron was enthusiastic to start with but as the first photo shows that soon wore off - in fact by the time Xanthe and Hamish went to school he had already had a shower and washed the dye off!

The rest of the morning was spent, shopping, doing housework, completing a couple of pieces of paperwork (more later) and going out for a picnic lunch to Knuckey. It was really cool today - a mere 26oC ; whilst neither Tish or I felt the need for a jumper we did both comment that it was quite cool!
Knuckey never fails to have something of note and today was no exception. The highlight a Swamp Harrier was too flighty to get any pictures but I an unexpected bonus were these three pelicans that dropped in for a while:

They are spectacular birds!
I also managed to take a semi decent shot of one of the most common birds around here a Bar Shouldered Dove:

And just to show that it is not all about birds I finally managed to get a shot of this beauty which has enabled me to identify it as a Clearwing Swallowtail:

NB you should be able to open and enlarge the image.

Tish was not just sitting back and enjoying the sun (although she did do this as well and quite right too after four night shifts!) she was playing around with the camera on her phone and took this little video to set the scene for you:

Hope the link works!
However the big event of the day was this evening when Tish finally collected her car...

It is a Holden Viva (a GM company sort of the Ozzie Vauxhall I suppose), it is a nice car. Everyone fits in OK and much to Tish's delight it is an auto - very good for buzzing around town.

Thats all for today but tomorrow will be another big update as we are back off to Litchfield National Park in the Landcruiser to try out some of the dirt tracks that were closed last time we went. We will also be swimming in a couple of the waterfalls.
