Today we visited the Darwin Museum and Art Gallery on the coast of Darwin. The Museum itself is a wonderful collection of natural history, fishing history in the northern territory and most importantly an exhibition dedicated section to Cyclone Tracy. The Cyclone hit Darwin with devastating force on Christmas Eve 1974. Christmas Day for many Darwinians that year was a total blur. There was a small dark room in the exhibition where you could stand and listen to the noises of the Cyclone happening around you, this was recorded by one of the local priests. Cameron needless to say most definitely did NOT enjoy this at all! I think I have traumatised my four year old son for life, however unintentionally. I have found a few links that might interest you or scare you to death!

The second link gives you an idea of what we heard in our dark room. The museum will be a place I am sure we return to on many occasions especially when you all come visit. We were obviously not allowed to take photo's inside the museum, but after the wonderful collections, Xanthe and I enjoyed the last room immensely. This room was dedicated to the art of the Larrakia Nation.

Afterwards we sat outside under the trees and enjoyed the view. I do believe there are not many places in Darwin you can go that don't offer you a fantastic view.
This picture is one of the banners outside the Museum as you can see fishing is a top recreational sport in the NT.
One of the views outside the museum whilst we were eating our ice cream.
Sometimes it was filled with nutters!!!!
Then we had a Funnell pile up!
As an unexpected bonus we manged to get the pair of Galah's that live outside on our street lights. This pair proves to be elusive every time we run for the camera, but not today gotcha you little monkeys. Mwahhhhhahhhhhahhhh!
Yes - I said I wasn't surprised that Cameron was traumatised!
