Night shifts over for the time being...

Last night was Tish's fourth and final night shift so having dropped the children off at school I went out birding (of course!!). A visit to Buffalo Creek was cut short as there were so many walkers on the beach that all the waders were getting flushed which was a real shame as there was a nice selection including 200+ greater sandplover with several in summer plumage

and this terek sandpiper (the one with the orange legs) which was showing very well but not when I managed to get this picture.

I then went on to Knuckey for a couple of hours to ensure that tish got some sleep.
As the water level drops the area is starting to get interesting and I can see that the potential for waders is great - role on the spring. At the moment waterfowl and egrets are the main highlight (as well as passerines).
The best photos today were this cattle egret

it is amazingly difficult getting a decent shot of a white bird!

Tomorrow Tish and I are taking the bikes out and are going to go for a ride along the coast.
