Whilst waiting for the oven cleaner to work we went out to Fogg Dam again this morning and were surprised that it was foggy from Humpty Doo to the turning onto Anzac Parade, the first fog we have seen since being here.
It was not very foggy by the time we were on the dam wall but the evidence of the fogg was everywhere - Xanthe was particularly taken with the droplets on the spiders webs.
We met one of the rangers along the dam wall this morning and had an interesting chat with him. They have caught three of the smaller salties but the biggie is still out there so the wall remains closed to pedestrians - have to say that driving it is probably the best bet anyway as you can use your car as a hide! He pointed out where the smaller crocs hang out later in the day and suggested that we came and lamped along the dam wall in the evening as well as parts of Anzac Parade for frogmouths and boobooks. Apparently during the wet when the water over tops the dam wall itself you can sometimes see the salties standing on the wall itself catching the fish as they get washed over - now that will be a sight to see!
As the dry season continues it is becoming clear that water holes further inland are drying up as waterfowl numbers increase everytime we are there - today there were several hundred Magpie Geese (including one very late brood of three young) and many more egrets scattered around.
Xanthe and my attention was drawn to a brood of Willie Wagtails that were being fed close to the road. Between us we got some great shots of the two newly fledged youngsters..
The adults were feeding them frequently but it was ridiculously difficult to get a picture of the doing so...
It was easy to get the birds before or after or even as it flew off but actually getting the food pass proved impossible!
The other big surprise was a very obliging Rose-Crowned Fruit Dove at the end viewing area - the bird was completely unconcerned by the three monkeys..
Not sure if Cameronis trying to be Superman like his brother or doing his own version of the Black Panther salute!
Although the dove was visible for quite sometime as it was feeding near the top of the trees the light was not particularly good for taking a decent picture so these are the best that I got.
