Change of plans.

Due to a delivery of furniture our friends had to pull out from our proposed return to Litchfield NP so we decided to delay that trip and head off east. Tish was keen to see Fogg Dam / Leaning Tree and so we came up with a circular route that took those sites in and included about 60km (37 miles) of decent off road tracks.
It was much cooler this morning and as it turned out very busy at Fogg Dam - it was still impressive though. Tish was much taken with the signs - you don't get these at too many UK National Parks..

The interpretation in the viewing areas is great both visual and informative..

After Fogg Dam we headed off to Leaning Tree for lunch

It did degenerate into a day out for the patients from the loony asylum!

After lunch we took the scenic route back via the Marraki Track. Tish drove the first two thirds whilst I hung out of the window birding.
The bush was alive with calling birds the majority of which did not show themselves but we did see some interesting stuff including some superb termite mounds..

There were lots of raptors in the area most interestingly a pair of Black Breasted Buzzards (open and zoom in)

and this obliging Brown Falcon - although the angle of the sun does not help at all

A lot of the track was reasonably graded gravel but there were a couple of more interesting sections, particularly the last 15km which had two river crossings..

A good day out!

  1. Sadly there was so much wind noise you couldn't hear much of what the children were saying in the video..... But from the little bit I could make out I think that may have been a good job! I'm glad Tish put a stop to Hamish - that would definitely have been too much information! Looks like you had a really good day.
