Xanthe is going to drawing classes this term in Cairns Gallery. This we thought would be a nice uncontroversial relaxing after school activity but it has proved not to be!
Now I know that one mans art is another mans graffiti and that I am biased but personally I think this picture by Xanthe is pretty good
Her art teacher on the other hand disagrees and told Xanthe that she "hated" it.
Now I don't think there is any excuse for saying that to an eleven year old even if you don't like the picture - it is certainly better than anything I could produce!
We gave it to Jen for her birthday and she and Alan both seemed quite pleased with it...
We think it's very lovely and impressive and it reminds us of one of Jo's pics that she got in a gallery and hangs on her wall. I'd certainly hang it on mine!
ReplyDeleteFrom Sarah: Very interesting picture, Xanthe. Satisfying composition & organization of colour. Who are the men in the boat - is there a story behind them?
ReplyDeletewell, what a ****ing **** is that art teacher? deserves a good kicking!! rant over.
ReplyDeletei remember my art teacher saying that what i did was likely to cause problems with my exams, as folks were going to either definitely like it or definitely not, but she was constructive about why - if you're going to say something like this idiot said, you (a) don't say it like that and (b) are constructive about why it affects you that way. What she said was just rude, not valid criticism.
there's a story going in the picture which i'd like to know more about, good use of colour, decent perspective... i find it interesting, not chocolate-boxey, and well done Xanthe!
So there!
Damn - I wanted it! How about a birthday picture for poor neglected Auntie Jo?!
