Catch up time

Realised that we had not done a blog for a few days..
The weather has compared to the rest of the country been quite "normal" for the time of year - that said it is still stinking hot. We have entered into a bit of a routine over the weekends, when Tish is on an early I take her in to work then pick her up at the end of the shift and go for a swim in lagoon in the late afternoon. last weekend we got our timings slightly out of sink and we forgot that Tish was on a shorter shift and so we ended up in the pool 3 hours earlier than usual - and what a huge difference that makes to the  suns strength, unfortunately we all ended up slightly burnt but not too badly luckily.
In the morning having dropped Tish off I took the children to the play park at the north end of the esplanade where they spent an hour under cover in light drizzle playing pirates and I did some birding. Took my digiscoping kit as the waders are a bit far for the DSLR lense.
here is a selection of my better shots..
Collared Kingfisher
check out the beak on this - would not want to be a crab caught by that!

Terek Sandpiper
Greater Sandplover
 Crested Tern
Varied Honeyeater

For the rest of last week we have been busy socializing with various colleagues of Tish; one of whom lives in an apartment complex with six pools much to the childrens delight. I don't think we managed to swim in all of them so a return visit is being planned. After a hectic afternoon swimming we went round to another colleagues house for a BBQ.

Given the extreme heat that we have been experiencing we have also tried to keep a few days as quiet days. Yesterday was one such and all we did was drive north along the Captain Cook Highway towards Mossman and Port Douglas where we had a gourment burger before heading back home, a very pleasant day it was too.
The views were spectacular in places but stopping was not an option outside the designated viewing areas.
This is the view south towards Palm Cove which is about 30km  further north along the coast from us at Yorkeys

  1. Looks a gorgeous place. You are certainly having a social time! You must try the rest of the swimming pools!!

  2. Lovely coastline. Um, just felt I should mention... "out of sink" should be "out of sync". As in synchronised (or not in this case). Otherwise one might think you tended to leave your clock soaking in the kitchen.

  3. Fab views. Is it beneficial to soak a clock in a sink? I do feel that "gourmet burger" is a contradiction in terms.
