Today was Tish's orientation day at Cairns Private Hospital. We dropped her off at 0800 and picked her up at 4.30pm when she came out in a slightly zombie like state as she has been bombarded with info all day. She was still smiling though and is quite happy that once she settles in to the new systems etc it will all be OK!
Tomorrow is her first proper shift - 0645 start.....
After we dropped her off we started to explore Cairns and ended up in Centenary Lakes Park.
There were some very strange fruits on show
which are all protected as this sign says..
...well it would say "Persons removing fruit or plants will be prosecuted" but there were some annoying children in front of it!
We wandered around for a bit.
...there is great birding potential in here I think but today was not the day for an in depth explore although we were all taken with these little chaps
on the salt water creek.
The it was a shortish pit stop at the ubiquitous set of swings
before we headed off back towards our holiday home to get some washing done.
We had a minor detour up to Crystal Cascades which is a waterfall and swimming hole complex just beyond where we are staying. It also has an interesting sign - I blame Jo for this on going theme within the blog although this one is a cracker..
We did not have our costumes so there was no swimming and given that some of the side streams were not exactly flowing...
I am not sure how spectacular the falls themselves would have been [we were not suitably shoed to finish the walk] but we will return.
The path was quite busy for a Monday morning but it did not deter these guys from having a little barny!!
These Australian Brush Turkeys were totally unconcerned by our presence.
Having been to the butterfly park yesterday it was great to see a"wild" Ulysses Birdwing. The males are a brilliant iridescent blue and are very large..
NB the pictures are from the park not the wild individual that was way too flighty!
Having completed the domestic chores and had lunch we went off to sort out curtain rails for our bedroom - all the other rooms had blinds but not ours, before having a quick look in at Cattana Wetlands {have spelt it wrong on previous posts].
This small site again looks to have potential but will need exploring more at a later date.
That said we saw some interesting stuff..
distant turtles
One of the more common species during the summer months anyway is this beauty
a Metallic Starling.
We then headed off to pick up Tish, via another playground!
Hope Tish's first shift ok.
ReplyDeleteYou'll have to take me on tour to add to my collection of signs when I head back down under! I still need a roo sign, but a stinging tree is a definite winner. The fire sign was much admired at work.
