...and we're in.

The container arrived slightly early on Friday in the capable hands of Tod and Memoy. They were a great couple of guys who have been in the business for a long time and were rather disgusted by how the container had been loaded - there were several boxes with "TOP LOAD / FRAGILE" written on the sides and top of the box that had been put at the bottom with other things on top! Luckily everything was OK and the only break we have had was one of the coffee mugs that some idiot knocked off when he was unpacking them!
Whilst we are not completely sorted we are getting there and the house is a considerable improvement on our last place.
Here are two quick videos of it:
Firstly the inside and the garden - except for the master bedroom:

Secondly the master bedroom and en suite:

Of course it would not be a Funnell move without a few trivial inconveniences; in no particular order we have no hot water, the en suite shower floods our bathroom and the dishwasher floods the kitchen!
We are hoping that the hot water issue is because both the gas bottles are empty - the last tenants had not told the letting agents this and so we only discovered it when I tried to have a shower Friday evening. That was when we also discovered that the bathroom floods!
Then at 0538 Saturday morning we had a power cut, rather annoying as we were going to go shopping and fill the freezer - luckily it was back on by 9am so not too bad.
On the way back from shopping Tish dropped in to the Letting Agent and passed on the hot water and shower issues but not the dishwasher as we did not discover that was leaking until Sunday lunchtime so we will have to call in again tomorrow.
We tried to order the replacement bottles but can't do so until Monday morning so we wont know until late Monday or Tuesday if the lack of hot water is solely due to the gas or have we also got a problem with the boiler.
Our neighbors are great on one side we have Alan who is apparently Mr Fixit for the community, he came round to introduce himself and to lend me his leaf blower so I could clear the yard (he had just finished his) he then took the children round and showed them his fish as well as giving them some rock crystals he had found locally. On the other side we have Matilda who is also very nice, she works in a bakery and this afternoon she knocked on the door and gave us some mini muffins that were going to be thrown away!
We do though have one set of exceedingly vocal neighbors...

these Bush Thick-knees spend the day about three foot from our front door, right outside Xanthes window!
I managed to scare everyone witless by pointing out we had a croc in the garden..
...and a very large gecko on the bathroom wall..
The area looks great and everyone is very friendly.
School tomorrow for Xanthe and Hamish - not sure about them but I know I am ready for them to go!!!

  1. I recognise that gecko - Sarah will too! House much bigger, nice. I particularly like the bath in the en suite and the running commentary on it all was fabulous ;-)
Hope you get some hot water soon xx
