Three month anniversary!

Today we have been over here exactly three months - how time flies. The three months have been the inevitable roller coaster of highs and lows as you would expect when you undertake such a huge move as we have.
The big low has I think we would all agree been leaving all our family and friends behind. To say we miss you all would be a huge understatement but Tish and I both still think that this has been the right move for us. Thank goodness for Skype etc, the thought of moving as we have with no means of easily talking to everyone is hard to fathom - and in all honesty I am not sure that we would have done it!
What we don't miss is the weather - very cliched I know but it is great to know that you can get on with what you planed without worrying if the forecast is going to be correct; even when it rains (and boy it can rain and we have only seen the tail end of the wet so far) you know that within an hour or so you can get back on with things. The heat is taking some adjusting to but we are getting there, some of us finding it easier than others but with aircon and room fans its OK. The only aspect of the British summer (and more particularly the Scottish summer) that I do miss is the variation in day length. Here sunrise and sunset varies by probably no more than 45 minutes throughout the year - where as in Scotland it would barely be getting dark at the moment, I do miss the long light evenings but you can't have everything.
The major highlight I think has to be the country that we have moved to and the people of Darwin. The country is beautiful and the people have almost without exception been friendly, welcoming and very helpful. Yes parts of the wider area have been badly developed and spoilt but that happens everywhere there are few unspoilt natural wildernesses left but Northern Territory has to come close. The people we have met could hardly have been more friendly and helpful - they have made the transition far easier than it might have been, particularly the school here in Wulagi who have been great at helping our three settle in and start to feel part of the community. It has been a relief to Tish and myself that they have settled in as well as they have - it has removed one of our biggest concerns prior to the move.

A few of the highlights (apologies for any reposts!)...

Warming up after a sudden downpour!

Relaxing after a hard day at school

Day out on the bikes

Out in the wilds

In the not so wild..

Dining out..

Beaches (too many to choose!)

.....and gardens too

And the odd bird or two!

I could go on but wont!

We miss you all.

Much love always
Dom, Tish, Xanthe, Hamish and Cameron.

  1. It doesn't seem possible that it's 3 months! As you say, thank goodness for Skype - and also for blogs, to which we look forward to immensely.
